Jacksonville Zoo has introduced a new QR code entry system to enhance the visitor experience. This innovative approach simplifies the admission process, allowing guests to purchase tickets online and scan a QR code at the entrance for quick and contactless entry. The benefits of this system include reduced wait times, easy access to ticket information, and real-time updates on zoo events and promotions. Simply buy your ticket online, receive your QR code via email, and scan it at the gate to start your adventure. ‘The Total Experience’ ticket offers some unique benefits so be sure to check out the best option for you or your family.

Must-See Animal Exhibits
The zoo boasts a variety of fascinating exhibits that showcase wildlife from around the globe. Don’t miss the African Savanna, where you can see giraffes, zebras, and rhinos roam in a spacious, naturalistic habitat. If you purchase ‘The Total Experience’ package you will be able to feed the giraffes. I learned a lot about the giraffes as the staff was very knowledgeable.
Did you know that giraffes put their tails up on their back when running so nothing can grab their tail and take them down? They only require 2-3 hours of sleep a day and they eat 16 hours a day. I won’t spoil it for you but it is encouraged to ask questions.
The Range of the Jaguar exhibit offers an immersive experience with these magnificent big cats, while the Land of the Tiger provides a unique glimpse into the lives of endangered tigers. Currently as of summer 2024 there are three new Malayan Tiger cubs, making this a must see. While here we could see them being playful and learning to swim. There are also interactive experiences, such as feeding sessions and keeper talks, offering deeper insights into the animals’ lives and conservation efforts.
Interactive Experiences and Attractions
Jacksonville Zoo is not just about observing animals; it offers numerous hands-on activities that bring you closer to nature. Visit Stingray Bay to touch and feed friendly stingrays (this was my favorite experience) or explore the Lorikeet Aviary, where colorful birds may land right on your hand. For more excitement, take a ride on the zoo train, which offers a scenic tour of the grounds, or enjoy an immersive show at the 4D Theater, where films come to life with special effects. Their last show runs at 430 pm still allowing you time to watch it and be out of the zoo on time. You may want to make this your last stop.
Keep your eyes open for some amazing botanical blooms. The May spring blooms offered a variety eye candy and sweet smells as you stroll through the pathways. Check out the Asian Bamboo Garden complete with a moon entrance, dragon sculpture and bridge. Listen to the bamboo rustle in the wind and unwind a bit as you walk or rest next to the Lotus Pond.

For something different enjoy some Dippin Dots, I was pleasantly surprised by the Banana Split flavor. Dippin Dots are their own experience of ice cream. Don’t forget to visit the gift shops, where you can find zoo-themed merchandise and eco-friendly products. These shops offer a range of souvenirs, from plush animals to educational books, allowing you to take a piece of the zoo home with you.
Planning Your Visit
To make the most of your trip, consider these practical tips. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon, when the animals are most active and the crowds are thinner. Utilize the zoo map and mobile app to navigate the grounds efficiently and discover all the attractions. The zoo is committed to accessibility, offering accommodations for guests with disabilities, including wheelchair rentals and accessible pathways. Family-friendly amenities, such as stroller rentals and nursing stations, ensure a comfortable visit for all ages. Note: I was here mid day in May on a Monday arriving at 1200 pm allowing plenty of time to get through all exhibits and not masses of people. This made the exhibits very open to have a more immersed experience. There is plenty of shade as you walk the paths but don’t forget that sunscreen and water. There are water fountains (bubblers depending on what part of the country you are from) bring a reusable bottle to save money and environment.
